Clemson Hits .438 to Defeat Green Bay – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

CLEMSON, S.C. – Graduate Adria Powell clocked eight blocks (one solo, seven assisted), and Clemson finished with a .438 hitting percentage to defeat Green Bay in three-straight sets (27-25, 25-13, 25-10) on Sunday afternoon. In total, six Tigers finished with a .300 hitting percentage or higher, led by freshman Kate Simington going 7-for-10, and Powell going 6-for-11.

Behind a .371 hitting percentage and three blocks, the Tigers bounced back to take set one, 27-25. Clemson maintained a balanced offense with Kennedy Wagner, who finished the match with 10 kills, leading the way with five kills and  Azyah Dailey and Mia McGrath both clocking four each to lead. Powell and Wagner combined for two block assists each, while Simington finished with three kills and one block assist during the set.

Clemson dominated the second set clocking a .474 hitting percentage as McGrath led the way with four kills on seven attempts with no errors and added three blocks assists. Powell put up five block assists to lead the Tigers to seven total blocks on the set. McGrath and Wagner also put up two service aces to help Clemson take set two, 25-13.

The Tigers rounded out the three-set sweep by hitting .526 in the final set as Wagner, Powell and Simington all clocked three kills. Powell added her team-high eighth block of the match as Clemson finished with 12 total that six different Tigers contributed to. The Tigers gained control of the match after Clemson went on a 12-0 scoring run with Wagner at the service line. She finished with three aces in the set, four on the match, to help propel Clemson to a 25-10 set victory.

The Tigers hit the road next week for a three-game tournament in Gainesville, Florida. Clemson will play Winthrop on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 4 p.m., before continuing action at the Gators Invitational against host Florida (Sept. 8) and Sacramento State (Sept. 9).
