The group phase of the CAVB African Nations Championship being held in Cairo, Egypt, drew to a close with a match between Gambia and Senegal. With the conclusion of the group stage, the matchups for the round of 16 have been decided. Given that there are 15 teams participating in the tournament, Libya, leading Pool D, progresses directly to the quarterfinals due to Pool A having only three teams.
In a fierce contest that went to five sets, Gambia overcame Senegal with scores of 22-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-27, and 15-13. This victory ensured Gambia a 3rd place finish in Pool D, leaving Senegal at the bottom in the 4th position.
The round of 16 games scheduled for September 8th are as follows:
- Cameroon vs. Burundi
- Rwanda vs. Tanzania
- Chad vs. Gambia
- Tunisia vs. Senegal
- Algeria vs. Ghana
- Morocco vs. Mali
- Host nation, Egypt, will face off against Kenya.
Libya, due to their top position and the tournament’s structure, bypasses this round and directly enters the quarterfinals.
