LOS ANGELES – The Colorado women’s volleyball team (9-5) dropped Friday’s match to the UCLA Bruins (9-4) in a three-set sweep (23-25, 21-25, 17-25).
For the second consecutive week, the team was led by outside hitters Lexi Hadrych and Maya Tabron, with Hadrych recording ten kills and Tabron close behind with eight.
Anna Dodson and Desiree Becker of UCLA played a pivotal role in the Bruins’ 3-0 sweep, with Dodson showing an impressive hitting percentage of .462 and Beckeer with a strong .417 hitting percentage.
“We had our opportunities in this match, especially in the first two sets. However, we struggled with our serve receive passing as the match went on and became very predictable,” head coach Jesse Mahoney said after the match. “We know we can execute better and will need to on Sunday at USC.”
The Buffs will look to end their trip to Los Angeles on a successful note when they face USC Sunday at 2 p.m. MT.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE:
The opening set saw the Bruins seize an early advantage of 6-2 following a five-point streak against the Buffs. UCLA maintained their lead as Colorado committed several errors. The Buffs then staged a comeback with a 4-0 scoring run, leveling the score at 16-16
Colorado briefly took charge, going up 19-18, but a Buff service error brought the score even to 19-19. The Buffs then returned with a three-point scoring lead, promoting a UCLA time-out thanks to a kill made by Hadrych. However, the Buffs fell short towards the end of the set as the Bruins rallied with a three-point lead, resulting in UCLA securing the set win 25-23.
SET TWO:
CU came out at the start of the set with a notable four-point advantage. However, the Bruins made a small dent in their deficit following a service error by the Buffs. From there, Colorado remained in the lead until the Bruins returned with a seven-point scoring streak. This turnaround resulted in the Buffs and the Bruins being tied at 11-11.
Following an attack error by UCLA, the Buffs made a small dent by one point. But as the set continued, the Buffs trailed UCLA for the remainder of the game, ending with the Bruins winning the second set 25-21.
