MANOA, Hawai’i – The No. 14 Lewis University men’s volleyball team fell to No. 1 Grand Canyon in five sets Sunday (March 10) in the OUTRIGGER Invitational.

SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: Lewis 25, GCU 23
Lewis earned a 3-1 lead early with back-to-back blocks. After Grand Canyon took the next two points, the Flyers used another 3-1 push with kills by Baggs and Roquet to restore its lead at 6-4.
From there, things went back-and-forth for most of the set. A kill by Roquet later made it 15-12 Flyers. A solo block by Morgan put Lewis ahead 20-17, but the Antelopes were able to get back within one point at 21-20 after taking three of the next four points.
Both sides traded points from there, with Lewis clinging to its narrow lead until a kill by Roquet gave the Flyers the opening set.
Set 2: Lewis 25, GCU 18
Lewis charged ahead quickly in set two, earning a 6-2 lead with a set-opening ace by Wymoczyl and back-to-back kills by Haber during the run. GCU fought back to get within two points, 8-6.
Shortly after, a 5-0 run including two block assists and a kill by Baggs pushed the Flyers’ lead to 16-8. The Antelopes were able to get back to within four, at 19-15 after a 4-0 charge but no closer the rest of the set.
Lewis closed the set by taking four of the last five points, with Drolsum collecting the last two on a kill and an ace.
Set 3: GCU 25, Lewis 17
Set three started out tight, with the Flyers taking back-to-back points to go up 3-2 on Drolsum’s second ace before GCU took the lead right back by securing the next two points. Kills by Roquet and Drolsum gave Lewis a 5-4 lead before a 3-0 push from the Antelopes made it 7-5 GCU.
Later, a kill and ace by Morgan tied the set at eight points apiece but Grand Canyon had another 3-0 push shortly after to go back up 12-9. The Antelopes stretched the lead to 20-13 later in the set with a 4-0 run, and eventually ended set three with a kill.
Set 4: GCU 25, Lewis 14
