ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.– The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball team opened up the weekend hosting Eastern Mennonite in a CVC match, the Blue Jays fell, 0-3.
The first set was the closest as Eastern Mennonite won, 25-21. Elizabethtown started off with a 8-7 lead over the Royals after a kill from Nick Chapman. The Royals then rattled off four straight points, taking a four-point lead. After trading points, Etown came back within one of EMU after kills from Logan Smith and Chapman. The Royals added another four consecutive points before a Chapman kill and Nate Seeger ace sandwiched an EMU error to bring the score to 20-22. Chapman recorded one final kill before the Royals won, 25-21.
Eastern Mennonite started strong in set two, leading off 5-2 after Etown errors. The Blue Jays managed to come within one before Eastern Mennonite went on a 5-1 run to jump to a 12-7 lead. After some back and forth, two straight EMU kills and an error put them up 23-15. Smith and Finch added kills through the end of the set but fell short, 19-25.
Eastern Mennonite went into set three with momentum from set two as they started off with a 6-2 lead after tallying five straight. Two Finch kills cut EMU’s lead to 8-4. Eastern Mennonite would go up by ten-points at 16-6 after rattling off five straight. Etown couldn’t recover and ultimately fell, 25-16.
Elizabethtown is back at it tomorrow in a tri-match with Rutgers-Newark and Penn St.-Schuylkill starting at 12PM.
