Blue Jays Fall to Randolph-Macon in Four-Set Thriller

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.– The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball team fell, 3-1 against visiting Randolph-Macon in a thrilling fashion Friday evening in CVC play. 

Alex Finch led the match with 19 kills (.262) and eight digs. Logan Smith totaled 11 kills while Dustin Hagin tallied eight digs. Nate Seeger grabbed 43 assists. 

Elizabethtown started off very strong in set one as the two teams traded points but Etown held onto a 6-5 lead. After more back and forth three straight Randolph-Macon errors followed by Smith and Cody Boyer kills put the Blue Jays up, 14-11. Three points in a row from the Yellow Jackets tied up the set, 14-14. Etown got going as they rattled off four straight to jump to a 20-16 and after an RM-C, the Blue Jays tacked on three more in a row. Smith, Boyer, and Finch recorded points on the run. RM-C snuck in two more before a Nick Chapman kill ended the set, 25-19. 

The two teams saw set two start close as well but Randolph-Macon had come out with a 14-10 lead. Three straight from the Blue Jays brought them within one. Etown and RM-C traded points before the Yellow Jackets would go on a 5-1 run to lead 23-17; just two away from set -point. Finch and Cole Burkhardt recorded kills before a Blue Jay error ended the set in Randolph-Macon’s favor, 25-20. 

The Blue Jays struggled in set three, hitting 0.0 while Randolph-Macon held their best hitting percentage of the match at .429. Randolph-Macon took a monstrous 12-5 lead and kept going from there. After added three in a row, the Yellow Jackets had a 17-9 lead. Chapman, Smith, and Finch snuck in…
