Heidi Peters was visibly thrilled at North Paris Arena after Canada’s 3-0 win over Slovenia in their first Paris 2024 Paralympic Games sitting volleyball match.
“I’m so pumped to have taken care of business,” she said, clearly excited.
The match had its challenges, especially with the team’s initial nerves. “We had a little bit of jitters in the beginning, seeing our family in the stands,” Peters said. However, those nerves quickly turned into energy that helped the team perform better.
Peters explained how they secured the victory. “This was mainly a serve and pass game,” she said. Even though Slovenia’s defence was strong, Canada stayed focused on their strategy. “We served well, passed the ball effectively, and hit the ball hard, which brought us success,” she added.
Being the world’s top-ranked team brought some added pressure, but Peters embraced it. “It’s really wild to be technically ranked No.1,” she said, knowing that the competition would be tough. “It’s anyone’s game on the day.”
Next, Canada will face Brazil, a team they know well. “It’s always nerve-racking, playing Brazil repeatedly, it’s obviously a rivalry,” Peters said. But after their win against Slovenia, she feels confident. “We’re feeling, especially after beating Slovenia today, quite confident.”
