Volleyball Drops UNT Invite Finale With Colorado

DENTON, Texas – Rutgers volleyball fell in straight sets to Colorado on the final day of the UNT Invitational on Sunday.

The Scarlet Knights dropped the match 12-25, 17-25, 16-25 to go 1-2 over opening weekend.

  • Freshman Avery Jesewitz led the attack with eight kills. The rookie hit .500 making only one error on 14 attempts.
  • Junior Aly Borellis set up the offense with 12 assists and led the squad with five digs.

  • SET 1 (25-12) |Colorado jumped in front opening the match with a 12- 1 lead.  Natalie Robinson logged points on all three of her attempts.

 

  • SET 2 (25-17) | The two squads battled four early ties and a Lexi Visintine kill has RU down by a point at 9-8. The Buffalos, however, responded with the next seven points en route to the 2-0 lead. Avery Jesewitz swung a perfect 5-for-5.

 

  • SET 3 (25-16) | The Scarlet Knights were unable to overcome another early Colorado opening run as the Buffalos took the first 10 points. RU produced a 7-2 run to narrow the gap at 16-10. During the run, aces were collected by Rebekah Williams and Jesewitz. Newcomers Ece Emrullah and Uliana Yastrub came off the bench during the frame to combine for five kills.

  • Freshmen Lily Bolen and Avery Jesewitz were named to the UNT Invite All-Tournament Team.
  • Bolen totaled 41 assists,14 digs and six aces across the 10 sets played on the weekend.
