DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team opens its 2024 conference slate this weekend with Boston College and Syracuse. The match against the Eagles will be at 4 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m., match against the Orange on Sunday. Both contests will be streamed on ACCNX.
LAST TIME OUT
Duke dropped both final non-conference matches last weekend — Michigan State (2-3) and Michigan (0-3).
Kerry Keefe tallied a career-high 27 kills in the setback to the Spartans as she hit .407 percent. Rylie Kadel added 10 for a .500 hitting percentage. Setter Nikki Quinn dished 45 dimes while libero Mailinh Godschall added 17 digs.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SERIES
BOSTON COLLEGE
Duke and Boston College meet for the 30th time in program history with the Blue Devils leading the all-time series, 24-5. Boston College has won three of the last four meetings, with three of those going to five sets.
SYRACUSE
Duke and Syracuse meet for the 16th time in program history as the all-time series is in favor of the Blue Devils, 8-7. The Orange have won three of the last five matchups.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
BOSTON COLLEGE
The Eagles wrapped up their non conference slate with a 7-5 overall record, most recently defeating North Florida at the LSU invitational, while falling to LSU and San Diego. In the Eagles’ victory over UNF, Halle Schroder earned her fifth double-double of the season. She tallied 22 kills on 47 total attacks, adding 12 digs and three service aces. Over the three matches, Schroder averaged 4.73 kills per set. Audrey Ross followed with 28 kills over the weekend, adding nine blocks. Julia Haggerty led the defense with 19 blocks, averaging 1.90 blocks per set. Morgan Riddle led the back row with 44 digs and two service aces.
SYRACUSE
At 12-0, Syracuse is off to its best start as a program since 2010 (17-0). The Orange finished non-conference play undefeated for the first time since that 2010 campaign. Syracuse is one of seven remaining unbeaten teams in the country and one of two undefeated ACC teams left, along with No. 1 ranked Pittsburgh. The Orange are led by Ava Palm with 155 kills, while setter Mira Ledermueller has dished 261 assists. Five different players own at least 50 digs. As a team, Syracuse is hitting .263 percent and is limiting its opponents to a .128 clip.
