BERKELEY, Calif. – Meeting as ACC opponents for the first time, No. 5 Stanford overpowered California, 25-15, 25-17, 25-14, Wednesday, in Haas Pavilion.
Stanford (15-3, 7-2 ACC) hit .362 while holding Cal (10-11, 2-7 ACC) to an .081 clip. The Cardinal registered 47 kills, 47 digs, eight aces and 7.0 blocks.
Outside hitter Elia Rubin led the team with 11 kills, eight digs and four blocks. Outside hitter Ipar Kurt added 10 kills on .562 hitting, three digs, two assists and an ace.
Setter Kami Miner controlled the offense with 32 assists and had 11 digs, three kills and two blocks for her team-best 10th double-double of the season. Libero Elena Oglivie finished with a team-best 12 digs to go with five assists and a pair of aces.
Middle blocker Sami Francis turned in nine kills and a match-high six blocks, while freshman Lizzy Andrew tallied six kills on .500 hitting and a block.
Opposite Jordyn Harvey recorded five kills on .357 hitting, three digs and a block. Freshman Taylor Yu tied her career-high with five aces and notched three kills, three assists and a dig. Defensive specialists Anna Pringle and Malyssa Cawa combined for seven digs.
Cal was led by outside hitter Maggie Li’s eight kills and five digs. Setter Natalie Lau had a double-double with 16 assists and a match-high 13 digs. The Cardinal won its eighth straight match against the Bears.
Stanford and Cal meet on Friday for round two at Maples Pavilion. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ACCNX.
