Kinkela Moves Into Top 10 In Career Blocks In Loss At No. 11 Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. – Rutgers volleyball nearly pulled off the first set victory, but ultimately it was the No. 11 Oregon Ducks sweeping the Scarlet Knights on Sunday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.

RU, wrapping up its inaugural Big Ten West Coast trip, was topped 26-24, 25-18, 25-14.

  • Redshirt junior Alissa Kinkela led RU with nine kills and heads into next week needing four more kills to join the 900 career kill club. 
  • Kinkela, along with freshman Natalie Robinson and sophomore Zora Hardison, led the defense with a trio of blocks each. With her 10 stops at the net on the weekend, Kinkela moved into the Rutgers rally-era top 10 in career blocks.
  • Junior Aly Borellis captured 15 helpers to go along with six digs.
  • Rutgers served up six aces, including a trio from junior Lexi Visintine.
  • Sophomore Kenzie Dyrstad posted seven digs.

  • SET 1 (24-26) | Rutgers nearly pulled off the first set, but a late Oregon run dashed the Scarlet Knights shot at taking the lead after the first set. The Ducks went out to an 8-3 lead but Natalie Robinson helped Rutgers out on two on the next three points to trail 8-6. The freshman Scarlet Knight captured a kill and teamed with Alissa Kinkela at the net as RU pulled within two. The Ducks went back up by five, ahead 13-7, but a big run ensued for the Scarlet Knights. RU proceeded on a 15- 4 run to establish a 21-17 edge.
