#22 Utah Falls to #13 Arizona State

SALT LAKE CITY – The 22nd-ranked Utah Volleyball team welcomed in the No. 13 Arizona State Sun Devils to the Jon M. Huntsman Center for a top 25 Big 12 showdown, falling 3-0 (19-25, 19-25, 18-25).
 
Utah started strong in the first set, jumping ahead 9-4 and getting kills from Kamry Bailey, Amelia Van Der Werff and Emrie Satuala. The Utes were forced to fend off an Arizona State rally as the Sun Devils cut into the Utah lead, 11-9. The Sun Devils then sparked a six-point rally to overtake the Utes, capturing their first set lead, 15-13. Utah eventually dropped the first set to ASU, 25-19.
 
In the second set, the visiting team came out of the gates with a 5-1 rally. Utah quickly sparked a comeback, evening the score at 8-8, coming off the Bailey kill. Van Der Werff ignited a second charge in the Utah offense, helping cut into the Arizona State lead as she brought the Utes to within one and making it a 14-13 game. As the back and forth continued, Utah was unable to overtake Arizona State, dropping the second set, 25-19.
 
Utah was forced to come back early, as Arizona State opened the third set with another 5-1 run. Utah used a three-point rally to come within one of the Sun Devils, trailing 5-4. Utah was unable to gain the traction to overtake Arizona State, as the Sun Devils expanded their lead back to 17-10.
