Terps Drop Match With Indiana


Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland volleyball was defeated by Indiana (21-25, 22-25, 23-25) on Saturday at the XFINITY Center Pavilion. The Terps are now 10-13 overall and 1-11 in Big Ten play.   

Each set contained several runs by either team, but the Hoosiers came out on top in consecutive sets. Neither squad led by more than six points in any of the sets. 

Eva Rohrbach had an all-around performance with eight kills, two aces, four digs and four blocks.

Anastasia Russ (seven kills and one block) and Samantha Schnitta (nine kills, six digs and one block) were other standouts.

Indiana improved to 12-10 overall and 5-7 in conference play.

The match was the Terps’ ALZtogether match. Fans were encouraged to wear purple to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. 

Breaking Down The Action

Set 1:  Indiana 25 Maryland 21

  • Maryland sided out on point one after a kill from Anastasia Russ put the Terps up 1-0.
  • Freshman outside hitter Katherine Scherer and Eva Rohrbach stuffed Indiana at 5-3.
  • Rohrbach tooled the block on a slide attack, and Maryland trailed 13-8.
  • At 20-16, Samantha Schnitta hit a cross-court kill.
  • Maryland lost the first set 25-21 after Indiana went on a 7-1 run and recorded four aces.

Set 2:  Indiana 25 Maryland 22

  • Sam Csire and Russ recorded the first block of the set at 3-3.
  • The score was 8-5 when Russ hit her fourth kill of the game.
  • Csire hit a ball down the line to put the Terps within two at 17-15.
  • Schnitta with a sideout at 21-18 after a kill on the outside.
  • Csire records her third kill of the night that kept Maryland alive at 24-22.
  • Maryland lost set two 25-22 after losing a joust at the net.

Set 3:  Indiana 25 Maryland 23

  • Rohrbach hits her sixth kill of the night to kick set one off 2-1.
  • An ace by Rohrback to tie the score 7-7.
  • Maryland tied the score again at 14-14 after Dowler won a joust at the net.
  • Schnitta hit another lefty kill on the outside and tied the game 19-19.
  • Ally Williams with a one-handed dig followed by a block from Schnitta. Maryland led 22-21.
  • Maryland lost set three 25-23…
