SALT LAKE CITY – The 19th-ranked Utah Volleyball team recorded its 13th sweep of the season, taking down the Mountaineers of West Virginia, 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-16). The Utes have posted a sweep in three of their last five matches, and have now tallied the most sweeps in a single season since 2014.
It was a close battle in the beginning as the Mountaineers held an early 13-11 lead over the Utes. Utah sparked an eight-point run, getting kills from Rianne Vos, Allie Olsen and Kamry Bailey, helping the Utes regain the lead at 20-15. The Utes closed out the rally, outscoring West Virginia 13-2 down the stretch and taking set one, 25-17.
Utah found its groove heading into the second set, taking an early five-point advantage after Kamryn Gibadlo, Allie Olsen, Emrie Satuala, and Bailey put kills away. Gibadlo kept the momentum on Utah’s side, putting away three kills, as the Utes ran their lead up to 17-10. Lauren Jardine got involved late in the set, planting the final kill to give the Utes the 25-15 win.
Gibadlo and Satuala set the Utes off on the right track in set three, putting away two early kills, and giving Utah a 4-2 lead. Utah was forced to battle back just moments later, after falling behind to the Mountaineers, 9-12. The Utes would go on to win 12 of the next 14 points, regaining the lead at 21-14. The Utes completed the sweep, 25-16, defeating the Mountaineers in the first meeting of the two programs.
