Four Cortland teams will be competing in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) postseason action on Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 3-6. Conference tournament champions in each of the four sports earn automatic berths into the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Three of the Red Dragons teams are at home:
* The men’s soccer team (14-2-1, 8-1 SUNYAC) won the SUNYAC regular-season title and earned a bye into the semifinals of the six-team conference tournament. The Red Dragons will host fourth-seeded Buffalo State (13-5-1, 5-3-1 SUNYAC) on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. in a semifinal contest. The Bengals defeated Geneseo, 2-1, in the quarterfinals last Saturday. The winner will play either second-seeded New Paltz or sixth-seeded Oswego in the finals on Saturday, Nov. 6. If Cortland wins in the semifinals, it will host the championship game.
* The field hockey team (15-1, 5-1 SUNYAC) finished second during the SUNYAC regular season and will host third-seeded Geneseo (11-6, 4-2 SUNYAC) in the semifinals of the four-team league tournament Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Cortland Stadium Complex. The winner will play either fourth-seeded Oneonta or top-seeded New Paltz in the finals on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the highest remaining seed.
* The women’s volleyball team (24-3, 9-0 SUNYAC) won the SUNYAC regular-season title to earn a bye into the semifinals and earn the right to host the league semifinals and finals Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6. Semifinal action at Corey Gymnasium begins Friday at 4 p.m. with second-seeded Geneseo facing either third-seeded Brockport or sixth-seeded Buffalo State, while Cortland plays Friday at 7 p.m. against either fourth-seeded Fredonia or fifth-seeded New Paltz. Cortland’s and Geneseo’s opponents will be determined Tuesday night in first-round matches. The two semifinal winners will play for the title at Corey Gym on Saturday at 4 p.m.
In addition to the three teams playing at home…
* The women’s soccer team (9-4-3, 6-1-2 SUNYAC), seeded third in the six-team league tournament, opened with a 4-3 win at home versus Brockport in last Saturday’s first round in Cortland. The Red Dragons, who rallied from a 3-1 halftime deficit, will travel to second-seeded Plattsburgh (12-3-2, 7-2 SUNYAC) for the semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. The winner will play either top-seeded Geneseo or fifth-seeded Fredonia in…
