GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville outside hitter Claire Chaussee and Pitt right-side hitter Courtney Buzzerio have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week. Libero/defensive specialists Maddy May of North Carolina and Emma Farrell of Wake Forest share ACC Co-Freshman of the Week accolades.
Chaussee led the Cardinals’ offense in their two signature wins at No. 13 Kentucky and at No. 9 Stanford. In the win at Kentucky, Chaussee had 16 kills with just three errors and a .371 hitting percentage. Three days later, the Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native had 19 kills with a .310 hitting percentage to knock off Stanford. She averaged 3.9 kills per set and hit .338 for the week.
Buzzerio led Pitt with a team-best 29 kills (4.83 per set) with a .391 hitting percentage to lead the Panthers to sweeps over Tennessee and No. 5 Ohio State. The win over Ohio State was the first top-5 home sweep in program history and is just the second time Pitt has swept a top-5 opponent. Buzzerio was at her best in that match, making 15 kills on .412 hitting. She made her last 12 kills without committing an error as the Panthers improved to 9-2. Against Tennessee, Buzzerio led the offense with 14 kills on .367 hitting.
May averaged a team-best five digs per set in a 3-0 week for North Carolina, tallying a 50 digs and four service aces. She tallied 18 digs in back-to-back matches and has had double-digit digs in seven straight matches. May had a team-best four aces in victory over Old Dominion, her third multi-ace match of the season.
Farrell enjoyed a standout week on the defensive end, recording 43 total digs over six sets during Wake Forest’s 3-0 sweeps over Davidson and Charlotte. She had 22 digs against Davidson, tying for the third-best all-time mark by a Wake Forest individual in a three-set match. In the win over Charlotte, she finished with 21 digs and seven assists, the latter tying for a personal season high.
