TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After a late push to win the opening set, Alabama volleyball fell in the next three as Auburn took the match in four sets Saturday afternoon at Foster Auditorium.
Alabama (6-8, 0-2 SEC) and Auburn (12-0, 1-0 SEC) were neck-and-neck in the opening set, with the Tide reaching set point three times before finally pushing through with a kill from Micah Gryniewicz to win, 28-26. The Tigers were the first to reach set point in the second set, 24-20, and Alabama scored back-to-back points to force Auburn into a timeout at 24-22. The Tigers closed it out on the next point to win, 25-22, and then surged to a pair of 25-15 wins in the third and fourth sets to take the match.
Alyiah Wells led the offense with 14 kills, just one shy of her season high, and also stuffed a team-leading four blocks at the net. With 40 assists and 10 digs, Brooke Slusser tallied her fifth double-double of the season, including three over her last five matches. Kendyl Reaugh finished with double-digit kills for the 10th time this season and Taylor Drapp made her season debut, tallying a pair of aces.
