SAN DIEGO – Francesca Alupei recorded career highs with 11 kills and 17.5 points and tied a career high with nine total blocks in the UCLA women’s volleyball team’s 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-23, 25-15) over San Diego State at Peterson Gym Thursday night.
The Bruins (6-2) tallied 14 total blocks in the three-set match, reaching double-digit block numbers for the fifth time on the early season. Freshman Grayce Olson was second on the team with four blocks (two solo, two assists) while élan McCall, Anna Dodson and Iman Ndiaye each had three block assists.
Alupei’s 11 kills came at an efficient .529 hitting percentage (11-2-17) while her middle blocker counterpart Dodson was nearly 1.000 for the match with six kills on seven attempts. Olson had 11 points on the night with eight kills at .375.
Olson has eclipsed double-digit kills in four of the first eight matches of her collegiate career.
The Bruins trailed 23-22 in the third set, up 2-0, when they rattled off three straight points to seal the victory. Two points came via kills by Alupei, and the other was defensive specialist Peyton Dueck’s third service ace of the night.
Setter Matti McKissock had a match-high 30 assists.
