Ames, Sweeney To Represent Sand Devils At AVCA Fall Championships

TEMPE, Ariz. – Taryn Ames and Lexi Sweeney from Sun Devil Beach Volleyball will represent Arizona State at the inaugural AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships in Huntsville, Alabama from November 4-6.

The women’s tournament will consist of 64 pairs selected from college beach teams across the country. Ames and Sweeney will begin with pool play on Friday, facing pairs from TCU, Arizona and LMU.

Ames, a junior, and Sweeney, a senior, are playing together for the first time this fall. Sweeney has played in the top spot for the Sand Devils the last two seasons. She is currently No. 11 in the record book for individual career wins with 30. Last season, she was named to the Pac-12 Championship All-Tournament Team with her partner Cierra Flood. Ames has been a starter in both of her seasons so far. She has 27 wins to her name, good for No. 16 in the record book for individual wins at ASU. Both are Phoenix natives.

This past weekend, Ames and Sweeney were the top pair for Arizona State at the home tournament. They beat the No. 1 duo from Arizona.

The rest of the Sand Devil squad will be competing at the Lopes Invitational at Grand Canyon from November 5-6.
