LEXINGTON, Ky. – A dominating block and outstanding serving led the sixth-ranked Wisconsin volleyball team to a 25-23, 28-26, 25-18 win over No. 14 Kentucky on Friday night.
The Badgers (4-1) out blocked Kentucky, 15-6, a season high stops for UW. Redshirt senior Danielle Hart and junior Caroline Crawford both stopped seven shots, recording season highs. Devyn Robinson added six blocks as Wisconsin held Kentucky (4-2) to a season-low hitting percentage of .231 (43 kills – 19 errors – 104 attempts).
Freshman Gulce Guctekin tied her career high with three service aces as UW finished with a 6-3 advantage from the service line. The libero also shared match-high honors with 11 digs. Kentucky finished with a 42-34 advantage in digs.
As a team, UW hit .272 (39-11-103) but recorded four fewer kills than the Wildcats. .
Junior Devyn Robinson led Wisconsin in kills, racking up 13, while Sarah Franklin tallied nine. Sophomore Anna Smrek came off the bench in the second set, finished with a .500 hitting percentage (4-1-6) followed by Julia Orzoł with .368 (8-1-19) while Robinson hit .323 (13-3-31).
Wisconsin’s 6-2 offense continues to improve as senior Izzy Ashburn put up 20 assists while junior MJ Hammill added nine helpers.
