Urmia, Iran, August 24, 2023 – Thailand brushed off Iraq in dramatic four sets 22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 to next challenge Bahrain, the old foes they had already beaten 3-0 in the final showdown of the recent AVC Challenge Cup in Chinese Taipei, for Ranking 7-10 in the 22nd Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship at Al-Ghadir Hall 1 on Thursday.
The scintillating 3-1 victory over the Iraqis in the Thursday’s Ranking 7-12 has earned Thailand a chance to improve their ranking when they are due to go up against Bahrain in the Classification Round for 7th 10th places. Iraq were relegated to the 11th-12th classification round against India.
Anut Promchan topscored with 25 points for Thailand consisting of 22 attacks, 2 blocks, and 1 ace serve, while team-mate Anurak Phanram contributed 10 attacks and 4 blocks. Omar Ali Ahmed led Iraq with 17 points.
Thailand finished a disappointing 15th place at the previous edition in Chiba, Japan two years ago while Iraq claimed 13th on their previous participation in 2017 in Indonesia.
