TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona beat CSUN in four sets to end the Wildcat Classic and improve to 10-1 on the season. The Wildcats are on a six-game winning streak.
Arizona was led by Sofia Maldonado Diaz with season high 16 kills and Alayna Johnson with 13 kills. Johnson also led the Wildcats with seven total blocks.
The Matadors won the first set, 25-23. Johnson and Maldonado Diaz each had four kills in the set, but CSUN made a late run to win the set.
Arizona tied the match with a 25-16 win in the second set. Four Wildcats had three kills and the team hit .448 to overwhelm the CSUN defense.
The Wildcats dominated the third set, winning 25-10. Johnson led the attack with five kills and a .714 clip and led the defense with three blocks. As a team, Arizona had 15 kills with just one error in the set.
Arizona won the fourth set, 25-21, to secure the match win. The Wildcats started the set on a 9-0 run and held the lead the rest of the set. Maldonado Diaz had six kills and Jaelyn Hodge tallied four kills to lead the Cats to their sixth consecutive win.
Arizona opens Pac-12 play at home against Arizona State on Wednesday, September 21 at 7 p.m. MST in McKale Center.
