Arizona Falls to UCLA in Four

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats lost to UCLA in four sets, 25-21, 22-25, 12-25, 16-25, on Sunday afternoon in McKale Center.
 
Jaelyn Hodge led Arizona with 13 kills with a .303 hitting percentage and also tallied five blocks. Zyonna Fellows recorded seven blocks and Alayna Johnson had six blocks.  
 
The Wildcats won the first set, 25-21. Sofia Maldonado Diaz had three kills and Fellows, Hodge, and Alayna Johnson each recorded three blocks in the set. Arizona’s defense totaled six blocks and held UCLA to a .061 hitting percentage.
 
The Bruins took the second set, 25-22. UCLA found an early 8-1 lead, but the Wildcats fought back to tie the set at 18-18 before the Bruins pulled ahead to win the set. Hodge led the Wildcats’ offense with six kills while hitting .357 in Set 2.
 
Set 3 went to UCLA, 25-12. The Bruins offense hit .400 and their defense held Arizona to just seven kills in the set.
 
UCLA won the fourth set, 25-16, to secure the match win. Dilara Gedikoglu, Hodge, and Johnson each recorded three kills in the set, but Arizona’s defense couldn’t slow down the Bruins who hit .326 in the set.
 
Arizona will host Stanford next Friday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. MST and California on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 12 p.m. MST in McKale Center.
