Arizona Falls to Utah in Three Sets

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats lost to Utah in three sets (13-25, 23-25, 25-27) on Friday afternoon in McKale to fall to 12-3 this season.  
 
Jaelyn Hodge led Arizona with 18 kills and a .400 clip but the Utes held the Wildcats to a .250 hitting percentage and served 11 aces to overcome Arizona.
 
Utah took the first set, 25-13. The set started with both teams trading points until the Utes went on a 11-0 run to win the set. Arizona’s offense only tallied five kills while Utah had 16 kills while hitting .500 and served five aces.
 
Arizona dropped the second set, 25-23. The Wildcats out-blocked the Utes 4.0-2.0 and held the Utah offense to a .222 hitting percentage, but Utah served four aces to win the set. Hodge tallied seven kills and Carlie Cisneros followed with three kills. Journey Tucker and Ana Heath led the defense with three block assists each.
 
The Wildcats fell 25-27 in the third set to lose the match. Despite Arizona and Utah both recording two blocks and two aces, the Cats couldn’t slow down the Utes’ offense which was hitting .444. Hodge paced Arizona with nine kills and Cisneros had three kills to help the offense but it wasn’t enough for Arizona.   
 
Arizona will head to Arizona State on Wednesday, October 9 to continue Big 12 play.
