Arizona Sweeps LIU in Day Two of GCU Invitational

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Wildcats swept LIU, 25-12, 25-13, 25-17, on Saturday at the GCU Invitational. It marks head coach Charita Stubbs‘ first sweep at the helm of Arizona Volleyball.
 
Three Wildcats had 10 or more kills in the match, led by Jordan Wilson with a season high 13 kills and a .370 clip. Jaelyn Hodge and Sofia Maldonado Diaz recorded 10 kills apiece to balance Arizona’s attack.
 
Maldonado Diaz recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs and Ana Heath recorded her fourth double-double with 36 assists and 10 digs.
 
Arizona won the first set in dominant fashion with a 25-12 score. Jordan Wilson led the offense with six kills while hitting .750. The Cats went on a 7-0 run to end the set and held LIU to a .167 hitting percentage. Freshman Giorgia Mandotti earned her first start as the libero and served her first career ace.
 
The Cats took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-13 win in set two. Wilson led Arizona again with four kills and Maldonado Diaz, Hodge, and Alayna Johnson each had three kills. The offense hit .406 while the defense held the Sharks to a .057 hitting percentage.
 
Arizona won the third set 25-17 to sweep the Sharks. Hodge and Maldonado Diaz tallied four kills each and Wilson knocked down three kills for the offense. The Cats went on a 5-0 to close out the match and Maldonado Diaz ended the game with an ace.
