PROVO, Utah – The Wildcats were swept on Saturday afternoon by No. BYU (24-26, 22-25, 20-25) at the Smith Fieldhouse.
Jordan Wilson and Carlie Cisneros both tallied double-digit kills to lead Arizona offense. Wilson recorded 18 kills while hitting .342 and Cisneros had 11 kills.
The first set went to BYU, 26-24. After being down 16-11, the Cats fought to tie the set at 24-24 but the Cougars won the final two points to take the opening set. Wilson led the offense with seven kills and Kiari Robey followed with five kills. Carlie Cisneros served an ace to keep the set close, but BYU held Arizona to a .250 clip to win the first set.
BYU won the second set, 25-25, to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Although neither team recorded a block, Arizona only hit .241 while BYU had a .364 hitting percentage to overcome the Cats. Wilson led the Wildcats’ offense with five kills and a .500 clip. Cisneros added three kills for Arizona. The Cats had a 22-21 lead but the Cougars ended the set on a 4-0 run.
Arizona fell 20-25 in the third set to lose the match. The Cats battled through 13 tie scores to hold the lead at 18-16 but BYU used a 9-2 run to come back and win the set. Wilson had six kills and Cisneros tallied five kills to lead the Wildcats. Jaelyn Hodge and Journey Tucker had two blocks each in the set but it wasn’t enough for Arizona.
