TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats won their second Big 12 match of the season in four sets over Houston (25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-16) on Friday night. Arizona improved to 13-5 (2-5 Big 12) with the win.
Jaelyn Hodge and Jordan Wilson led Arizona to the victory over Houston with 18 kills and two blocks each. The duo also recorded a pair of double-doubles – Hodge had 18 kills and 17 digs while Wilson had 18 kills and 16 digs. Arizona’s defense totaled a season-high 86 digs with five Wildcats recording double-digit digs in the match.
Arizona won the opening set, 25-20. The Wildcats came out strong, hitting .469 and recording two blocks to hold the Cougars to a .219 clip. Arizona held the lead the entire set and used a 5-0 run at the end to push the team to the opening set win. Hodge led the offense with six kills while hitting .600 and Carlie Cisneros followed with four kills in the set.
Houston tied the match with a 25-22 win in the second set. In a back-and-forth set, Arizona was held to a .136 hitting percentage. The Cougars had three blocks and two aces to edge out the Cats in the set. Wilson tallied seven kills and a .583 clip to lead the offense but it wasn’t enough.
The Wildcats took the third set, 25-17, to regain the lead in the match. Although Houston’s defense had four blocks and held the Cats to a .174 hitting percentage, Arizona used three service aces and a 6-0 run…
