Arizona Takes Down Maryland to Sweep Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Wildcats beat Maryland in five sets to sweep the Aztec Invitational. Arizona won the first set and had to come back after falling in the second and third sets.
 
Puk Stubbe led Arizona’s attack with a career high 20 kills with a .340 hitting percentage. Jaelyn Hodge followed with 15 kills and Zyonna Fellows had a season best 12 kills.
 
Arizona won the first set 25-22. Fellows led the attack with four kills and Hodge, Sofia Maldonado Diaz, and Stubbe each had three kills. Emery Herman had three blocks to hold off the Terps.
 
Maryland tied the match in the second with a 25-22 win. The Wildcats held the lead for most of the match, but Maryland came from behind to win.
 
The Terrapins won the third set, 25-19. Although the set was back-and-forth between Arizona and Maryland, the Terps took the lead and 17-16 and Arizona never regained it.  
 
The Wildcats won the fourth set, 25-17, to force a fifth set. Stubbe led the Wildcats with five kills. Arizona’s defense overwhelmed the Terrapins with six blocks.  
 
Arizona was dominant in the fifth set to win 15-11. Hodge had five kills and Stubbe had four kills to push Arizona to the match win.
