Babcock & Stafford Named Club U18 First Team All-American

PITTSBURGH – Incoming Pitt freshman Olivia Babcock and Torrey Stafford were selected as 18U Club First Team All-Americans by prepvolleyball.com continuing a string of impressive honors for members of Pitt’s highly-touted 2023 recruiting class.

Following their high school seasons, volleyballmag.com awarded Babcock and Stafford 1st Team High School All-American status. It was the second straight 1st Team HS All-American recognition for Stafford after doing so in 2021 as well. It was the first time in program history that Pitt has had multiple 1st Team All-Americans in the same recruiting class.

Babcock, an AVCA and volleymag.com First-Team High School All-American, is rated as the No. 43 recruit in the country for the Class of 2023 by prepvolleyball.com and No. 27 by prepdig.com. Babcock led her high school, Sierra Canyon, to its first Division 1 girls volleyball championship this season recording a team-high 22 kills in the championship match. Babcock recently helped the USA Volleyball to a gold medal at the 2023 U19 Pan American Cup.

Stafford holds the highest ranking in the signing class, coming in at No. 12 on prepvolleyball’s list and the fourth best outside hitter in the Class of 2023. She is the first Pitt signee to have earned a position on the Team USA youth national team, doing so as a member of the 2022 USA U-19 team that won a gold medal at the Pan American Cup over the summer, sweeping Brazil in the final match to finish, 5-0 in the tournament.

She was named MVP of the Under Armour All-American Match, leading Team Speed to a five-set victory in January of 2022.

The 2021 Maxpreps Junior Player of the Year led her high school, Marymount HS, to a perfect 35-0 record and a California State Championship last season, only losing eight sets all season. Stafford was named 1st Team All CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) for her efforts, her second All-State selection, after earning second-team honors after her freshman season (2019). She earned volleymag.com 1st Team High School All-American in both 2021 and 2022 becoming the first Panther signee to have earned multiple 1st Team All-American honors in high school.
