UTICA, N.Y. – The Union College women’s volleyball team got back into the win column with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-10) victory over SUNY Poly on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field House.

Junior Mya Delesdernier led all players with a career-high nine kills on .333 hitting for Union (10-10), followed by classmates Keara Page (seven kills) and Nikki Newcomer (six kills) as part of a well-balanced offensive attack. Senior Haley Kresch led the team with 21 assists and four service aces, while Newcomer and first-year Georgia Pool added a team-best nine assists each.

Emma Draper recorded seven kills and Meghan Peek picked up 17 digs to lead SUNY Poly (0-18) on the afternoon.

SUNY Poly started the match out strong, taking an early 11-6 lead in the opening set. However, Union came back with 10 straight points, bookended by a kill and an ace by classmate Kirsten Litchfield and a pair of kills by sophomore Farah Elgala, to take a 16-11 lead. The Wildcats had some fight in them as well and eventually took back the lead at 21-20, but Union rattled off the final five points to take the set.

The final two sets were considerably easier for the visitors, as Union never trailed in either frame. A Page kill and two aces from junior Denali Douglas helped Union jump out to an early lead in the second set and, despite the Wildcats getting back within a point at 13-12, the Dutchwomen recorded 12 of the final 15 points to take the middle set. The home team recorded consecutive points only four times in the third set, as Union put down 12 kills with only two errors.
