Barnes Earns CSC Academic All-District Honors


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois volleyball’s Caroline Barnes was named a College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District honoree, the organization announced on Tuesday. This marks the second straight year the junior has earned the honor.

Barnes appeared in 26 matches this season, primarily seeing action at the libero position. The junior paced the Illini squad with 331 digs this year. In four matches this season, Barnes recorded 20 or more digs, posting a season-high 22 digs against Rutgers (Oct. 22) and Minnesota (Nov. 24). Behind the service line, the Naperville, Ill., native tallied 17 aces, including three in a match at Bradley on Sept. 12.

In the classroom, Barnes is an Information Sciences major. She recently earned an Academic All-Big Ten distinction last week.

ABOUT THE AWARD

The 2023 Academic All-District Women’s Volleyball teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Jan. 9.
