SEATTLE – Two Dawgs made the seven-player Pac-12 All-Freshman Team, the conference announced today. True freshmen Kierstyn Barton and Katy Wessels both earned the honor. It’s the first time since 2014 that the Huskies have had multiple All-Freshman Team picks.

Barton, an outside hitter from Chandler, Ariz., was a three-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, matching the most wins ever for a Husky rookie. She ranked third on the team in kills per set (2.79) and in total kills (279) while also handling more serve-receptions than any other player on the team. Barton led the Dawgs in kills in six matches, including a season-high 26 back on Sept. 14 against Cal Poly, which was the most by a Husky freshman since Christal Morrison in 2004. Barton added 140 digs, 32 blocks, and 14 aces.

Wessels, a middle blocker from Lewiston, Idaho, started all 31 matches this season and ranked second on the team with 87 total blocks, and led the team in conference matches with 54 total blocks. Her .265 attack percentage in conference play was second-best on the team. For the season, Wessels had 91 kills (0.77/set). She led the team in blocks in 16 matches, with a season-high of 8 in the five-set win at Utah. She also had a season-high of 8 kills in the Sept. 24 match at Arizona State.
