Beach Dawgs Down Texas In First Meeting


HONOLULU, Hawaii – The 14th-ranked Beach Dawgs played their fifth and final match in Hawaii today at Queen’s Beach, handling Texas in the first meeting between the programs by a 4-1 score. Washington heads into a bye week with a 7-6 record.
 
The Huskies swept the first four matches in straight sets before Texas got the final point in a three setter. This is the first season of beach for the Longhorns.
 
At the No. 5 spot, Hannah Yerex and Mary Sinclair raced through a 21-1, 21-9 domination. Chloe Loreen and Natalie Robinson had a 21-11, 21-9 win over Texas’ No. 1 pair of Phillips/Crownover to make it 2-0.
 
On her birthday, Shannon Gormally teamed with Teagan DeFalco for a 21-18, 21-12 win at No. 4 over Byrd/Wenaas to clinch. Then Scarlett Dahl and Paloma Bowman took down Skinner/Helmers, 21-15, 21-13, at No. 3.
 
Piper Monk-Heidrich and Kendall Mather forced a third set after losing the first on court two, but Texas won the third, 15-11, to get the last point.
