Beach Dawgs Facing Three Top Ten Opponents This Weekend in LA

SEATTLE The Huskies are looking to build off their two-game winning streak in the City of Angels for the “Battle 4 LA” tournament starting this weekend. On Friday, the Dawgs will take on No. 5 Loyola Marymount at 10:00 a.m. and No. 14 Grand Canyon at noon at LMU. On Saturday, they will play No. 1 UCLA at 10:00 a.m. and No. 9 Long Beach State at 2:00 p.m. at Mapes Beach.

 

Weekend in Review

The Huskies took down Houston Christian and Central Arkansas last Saturday, winning both duals 5-0 after dropping two top-ten-ranked duals the day before on Friday. The Huskies dominated against HCU as they won every match in two sets. Piper Monk-Heidrich and Magdelna Rabastich highlighted last weekend’s performance. They went undefeated in their matches and moved into the number one position, taking down the No. 6 LSU’s best pair.

 

That tough opening weekend should prepare the Dawgs for this coming weekend. They will have their hands full competing in an entirely ranked tournament featuring some of the country’s best teams, including the new No. 1 team in the country.

 

Scouting report 

No. 9 LBSU took down then No. 19 Pepperdine and Vanguard 5-0 last weekend.

 

No. 14 GCU is undefeated, taking down Ottawa and Arizona Christian 5-0 and University of Alabama Birmingham 4-1 and a much closer victory 3-2 against Boise State last weekend. 

 

UCLA is now the number one team in the nation getting the best of then No. 1 USC 4-1 and also taking down the new No. 2 team, Stanford, as well as No. 10 Hawaii.

 

No. 5 LMU got the best of the new No. 1 UCLA 3-2 and No. 10 Hawaii 4-1.

 

In the Rankings

The Huskies opened the season as the No. 15 team in the AVCA preseason rankings and have moved up to No. 13. The Huskies are also tied at No. 15 in the CollegeBeachVB rankings.

 

Additional Information

For fans, parking is charged from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM on Friday on campus and it is best to enter at Lincoln Blvd and park in Lot A across from Gersten Pavilion. 

For Saturday, spectator parking is located at the Sunset Village (SV) Parking Structure or lot #11 located off Bellagio Dr. Parking can be purchased at an hourly rate or a flat rate of $15 per day.
