TEMPE, Ariz. – Utah Beach Volleyball opened up postseason action against the University of Oregon for the sixth year in a row. The eighth-seeded Utes took down the ninth-seeded Ducks, 3-1, in the opening round of the final iteration of the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championships.
After their opening-round win over the Ducks, Utah advanced to face the top-seeded and #1 nationally ranked team, the University of Southern California Trojans in the second match of the afternoon. The Utes would fall in the second round match against USC, 3-0.
The day started with both the Ducks and Utes taking a court each. Oregon would secure the win on the second court, locking up the back-and-forth three-set battle, 16-21, 22-20, 15-9. The Utah pairing of Kylie Pitzak and Marissa Koch earned the first win of the day, 21-19, 21-11. As the second wave took the courts, Utah would need two more wins to complete the match win. On the first court, the duo of Langley Griffin and Katie McAlister earned the second win for the Utes. Griffin and McAlister secured their win against the Ducks pairing, 23-21, 21-16. Utah secured the match with a win coming on the fifth court from Gwen Fife and Milan Ray, 21-9, 21-11.
Utah is now in a must-win scenario, returning to action on Thursday, April 25, taking on the University of Washington at 1:00 p.m. MT.
