NAGOYA, Japan – Georgia Tech volleyball alumna Julia Bergmann has joined Brazil’s national volleyball team for summer competition, currently competing in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League for the second consecutive season. After making her mark on the international scene a year ago finishing second in the league on serve receive, the former Yellow Jacket is once again a top performer for her squad in the starting rotation.
Brazil began competition in the VNL on May 31 and has played four matches, going 3-1 over that span for 10 points to tie for the second most points in the league.
Bergmann was steady out the gates, helping Brazil push its opening match against China down to the wire behind 15 kills, nine digs and a block before ultimately falling in five sets.
The three-time all-American propelled Brazil to a sweep in its second match of the competition, blowing by the Netherlands as Bergmann fortified the unit with 10 kills, four digs, two blocks and an ace.
In Brazil’s 3-1 victory over the Dominican Republic, Bergmann was a key factor once more as she added another 11 kills, seven digs and two blocks.
“It was a tight game from the beginning,” noted Bergmann. “As some players from the Dominican Republic play in Brazil, they know our game system. We fought until the end both in attack and defense. Lorrayna came in super well. It was a long game, and the important thing is that the victory came.”
To wrap up the week, Tech’s former standout helped Brazil pick up its second sweep of the week over Croatia with 10 digs, three kills, a block and an ace.
Overall, Bergmann finished the week with well-rounded totals of 47 points, 39 kills, six blocks and two aces as she sits fourth in the VNL in serve receive.

The home country will compete on June 14-15 and June 17-18, beginning with a match against Korea at 8 p.m. ET on June 14. Brazil will follow with a match against Serbia at 8 p.m. ET on June 15.
