Bergmann Earns Second Straight ACC Player of the Week – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior outside hitter Julia Bergmann has been named ACC Player of the Week for the second time in as many weeks after leading undefeated No. 5 Georgia Tech volleyball (5-0) to three more wins at the GT Invitational, the league office announced on Monday.

Bergmann has received both of the ACC’s weekly recognitions as top player in the conference this season after gathering four such honors a season ago. Last year, she became the first student-athlete in the conference to receive ACC Player of the Week four times in a season since 2015. Compiling her accolades, Bergmann is up to seven career ACC Player of the Week honors and nine total Atlantic Coast Conference weekly awards after earning ACC Freshman of the Week twice in her first season on The Flats.

The decorated Jacket led Tech to its second straight undefeated weekend to open the season, garnering MVP honors of the home-hosted GT Invitational after piling up 47 kills at a .392 clip, 23 digs, nine blocks (one solo, eight assisted) and five aces. With those numbers, she currently leads the nation in points per set (6.32) and is second in the country in kills per set (5.41).

The vaunted outside hitter started off Tech’s dominant weekend by tallying a match-high 16 kills at a .448 clip to go with seven digs, a pair of blocks and a couple of aces in a sweep of Dayton. Those 16 kills mark the third most in the ACC through three sets on the year.

Bergmann followed that with her second 20+ kill outing and double double of the season, powering Tech to a 3-1 victory over Arizona State with a match high 23 kills at a .400 clip, 10 digs, two aces and a block. Her 23 kills were the third most in a match across the ACC this season, trailing her own mark of 33 against Ole Miss in the season opener that still tops the conference.

To wrap up the weekend, Bergmann put forth the most complete match of the day in a sweep of FIU with eight kills, six digs and a career-high tying six blocks. Overall, the decorated Jacket led Tech in kills and hitting percentage through the tournament.

The Jackets receive their second weekly ACC honor of the year after racking up 12 total a season ago, which led the league for the most in program history on record. Georgia Tech had at least one recipient of an ACC weekly award in eight of the 14 weeks the conference recognized winners last season.
