Big Ten Announces 2022 Volleyball Schedule


EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Big Ten Conference has announced the 2022 fall volleyball schedule, featuring a 20-game slate that includes 10 home and 10 road matches. Michigan State will play 10 games against teams that finished the 2021 season ranked inside the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25.
 
Michigan State will play home-and-away series against Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Northwestern. The Spartans are set for single games against Maryland, Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Ohio State, and Iowa.

“The Big Ten is the premier volleyball conference in the country and this season will be no exception,” said Michigan State head coach Leah Johnson. “Our team will be challenged night-in and night-out. There is no such thing as an easy opponent in this league. Our program has 10 newcomers who will experience the gauntlet that is the Big Ten for the first time. We will focus on our process and development as we strive to climb the ranks of the revered Big Ten.”
 
Michigan State begins its Big Ten campaign with four straight road games, opening conference play at Nebraska on Friday, Sept. 23 before traveling to Rutgers on Sunday, Sept. 25. MSU caps off its four-game road stretch with games against Maryland on Friday, Sept. 30 and Penn State on Sunday, Oct. 2.
 
Continuing the trend of Friday/Sunday games, the Spartans welcome Nebraska to East Lansing for the first home conference match of the season on Friday, Oct. 7, before finishing the weekend at home against Minnesota on Sunday, Oct. 9. Michigan State hosts rival Michigan on Friday, Oct. 14 before heading back on the road for a match at Indiana on Sunday, Oct. 16.
 
MSU travels to defending National Champion Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 21 before returning home to face Indiana on Sunday, Oct. 23. Michigan State will play its first mid-week game of the conference slate at Minnesota on Wednesday, Oct. 26, before wrapping up October with a game at Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 30.
 
The Spartans open November with a pair of back-to-back’s, welcoming Purdue and Ohio State to East Lansing on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5. Michigan State will play a second set of back-to-back games the next weekend, hosting Illinois on Friday, Nov. 11 and Northwestern on Saturday, Nov. 12….
