Bison pick-up first win of the season, Wright named to Battlefield Classic all-tournament team


GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women’s volleyball team began its 2022 season with a 1-3 record at the two-day Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College.

Gallaudet won its first match of the season in a five-set thriller against Penn St.-Altoona on Saturday afternoon. GU won the first set before the Lions battled back to take a 2-1 lead. Gallaudet regrouped and won the fourth set in dominant fashion, 25-11, and took the fifth and final set, 15-12. Junior opposite Emily Wright (Penn Valley, Calif.) led the way with 32 kills on 59 swings while freshman Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) recorded 16 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore setter Alyssa Glennon (Buda, Texas) served up four aces and passed out 60 assists and made a team-high 16 digs.

Earlier in the day, Gallaudet dropped a straight-set match to Arcadia University, 16-25, 22-25, 16-25. Lummer recorded 10 kills and 13 digs in the loss.

GU kicked-off the two-day tournament against Montclair State University on Friday and won its first set of the new season. GU won 26-24 in the second set over the Red Hawks, who won the match 3-1. Wright paced the Bison with 19 kills while Glennon and freshman Enza Visco (Riverside, Calif.) passed out 20 and 19 assists, respectively.

The Bison lost in straight sets to Messiah University, 18-25, 17-25, 15-25 on Friday night.

For her efforts, Wright was named to the all-tournament team as she tallied 64 kills during the tournament.
