Blue Jays Coast Past Colonels

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball team coasted to a 3-0 decision over Wilkes in non-conference action, Wednesday evening. 

Wilkes led 5-4 early in set one after kills sandwiched an Elizabethtown attack error. Four straight points from Etown put the Blue Jays on top, 8-5. The two teams traded the lead throughout the set. The Blue Jays recorded four straight to extend their lead, 23-18. Two kills from Logan Smith ended the set, 25-20. 

Wilkes again started the next set with the lead until Elizabethtown rattled off five straight with the help from Nate Seeger, Alex Finch, and Cody Boyer. Boyer and Trey Weedon each added a kill to bring Etown’s lead to 11-8. The Blue Jays pulled ahead by six before the Colonels cut Etown’s lead to 16-13. The two traded points until Etown ended the set with three straight to win, 25-20. 

Elizabethtown flipped the script and started set three with a 7-5 lead over Wilkes after kills from Smith and Finch. Nick Chapman smacked down a kill to keep Etown in the lead by three points. The Blue Jays continued to hold a three-point lead throughout set three after more kills from Finch and Chapman. Three straight points from Etown put the team up, 22-17. A Smith service ace ended the set, 25-20 with Etown winning the match, 3-0. 

Smith led the team with 14 kills (.286) and six digs. Finch totaled 13 kills (.292) and seven digs while Chapman totaled 11 kills (.333). Seeger grabbed 43 assists while Dustin Hagin tallied 11 digs. 

The Blue Jays return to CVC play on Friday, March 22 as they travel to Roanoke at 7PM.
