Blue Jays Earn 10th Win of the Season in Sweep over Immaculata

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.– The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball team moved to 10-6, Tuesday evening after sweeping Immaculata in Thompson Gymnasium. 

Alex Finch led the match with 16 kills (.500) and five digs. Logan Smith totaled 12 kills (.348) while Ethan Scott tallied 23 assists. 

Elizabethtown started off strong taking a 7-3 lead early in set one after five straight points. A kill from Smith and Finch along with a Smith ace put Etown up, 10-4. After some back and forth, the Blue Jays went on a 5-1 run with kills from Smith, Trey Weedon, and Finch.  Nick Chapman and Weedon lifted Etown to a ten-point lead over the Mighty Macs. Immaculata tallied three straight before Finch smacked one down to win set one, 25-16. 

Etown again started off the following set with a lead but it was tighter at 7-5. Immaculata then took over at 9-8 after tallying three in a row. For the next several points the two teams went back and forth with neither gaining more than a two-point lead. Smith grabbed two consecutive kills before Immaculata tied up the set at 18-18. The Blue Jays rattled off the next three points to lead, 21-18. Through the end of the set the teams continued to trade points but Etown was able to pull through with the 25-22 win. 

Set three saw Elizabethtown jump to a 10-4 lead after kills from Finch and Smith. A Chapman kill along with a slew of Mighty Mac errors put Etown up 15-6. The Blue Jays then tallied five in a row to extend their lead to 23-10. Scott recorded Etown’s final kill and an Immaculata service error ended the set, 25-12.
