Blue Jays Put Up Strong Effort at No. 13 Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y.– After struggling in set one at No. 13 Nazareth, the Elizabethtown men’s volleyball team put up a strong effort in the next two sets but ultimately fell, 3-0. 

Alex Finch led the match with 13 kills and five digs. Nick Chapman totaled 12 kills and Nate Seeger grabbed 38 assists. 

Set one began close as Elizabethtown trailed Nazareth, 5-3 early. The two teams traded points but the Golden Flyers still held the lead and after three straight kills, Nazareth led, 12-5. After four more from Nazareth the Golden Flyers had a ten-point lead. Etown was unable to recover as they fell, 25-14 in the first set. 

The Blue Jays were explosive to start set two against No. 13 Nazareth. Etown jumped to a 7-1 lead with kills from Chapman, Logan Smith, and Finch. The Golden Flyers managed to come within five of Elizabethtown. For the next few points the teams went back and forth before Nazareth tallied four straight to bring the score to, 16-14. The set was tight until the end as the Blue Jays forced extra points after a Nazareth error tied the set at 25-25. After some more back and forth, the Golden Flyers came out on top to win, 29-27. 

Set three started similar to the first set as Nazareth led, 9-7 after a kill and an ace. Smith, Chapman, and Smith recorded kills to bring the score to 19-14. The Blue Jays continued to trail but crept closer at 21-18 after a Mason Boyer ace. Finch and Trey Weedon smacked down kills to bring Etown within five of set point. Two Etown errors gave Nazareth the 25-20 win over Elizabethtown.
