JACKSON, Mich. – Monday afternoon marked the second installment of the 2022 Crossroads League Volleyball Player-of-the-Week awards, and two Trojans racked up the weekly honor this go-around.
The 2021 Crossroads League Setter of the Year, Kacy Bragg, picked up her first 2022 CL Setter-of-the-Week award, while West Florida transfer, Grace Ieremia, earned her first CL Defender-of-the-Week honor while sporting a Trojan uniform.
Bragg put up progressively more impressive numbers throughout Taylor’s 4-0 weekend, compiling 174 total assists that were highlighted by an absurd 61-assist match against Thomas More. While never leaving the court, Bragg averaged 10.24 assists-per-set throughout Taylor’s undefeated performance at the second-annual Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament. Even more, she posted two double-doubles, including a 47-assist-15-dig clinic in Taylor’s thrilling five-set win over IU-Kokomo.
The Trojan setter now leads the Crossroads League and sits 15th in the nation with a season-average of 10.13 assists-per-set. Meanwhile, the Warsaw, Indiana, native now boasts 2,983 career-assists, a mere 17 away from the 3,000-career milestone.
While Bragg catalyzed the Trojan offense throughout the weekend, Ieremia solidified the TU defense by totaling 26 total blocks in Taylor’s four matches. The Florida native played in each of Taylor’s 17 sets, averaging a remarkable 1.53 blocks-per-set, a mark that leads the Crossroads League and sits third in the entire nation.
Ieremia’s award-winning week was spotlighted by a nine-block performance in TU’s win over St. Thomas, a match in which she also pounded seven kills without making a single error.
Just two weeks into the 2022 campaign, Taylor volleyball already boasts three Crossroads League player-of-the-week awards, while Taylor Athletics has a total of seven CL or MSFA weekly awards.
No. 22 Taylor (6-0) is set to return to action Friday, September 2, when the Trojans take on No. 14 Central Methodist (2-1) at 3:00 pm ET, followed by a matchup with No. 25 Ottawa (1-4) at 7:00 pm ET.
