LONG BEACH, Calif. – The UCLA women’s volleyball team collected 19 blocks in a 3-1 victory at Long Beach State in The Walter Pyramid Saturday night.
It was the Bruins’ (4-1) third highest blocking total in a single match across the last seven seasons.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-20, 23-25 and 25-22. UCLA finished the Long Beach State Tournament with a 2-0 record, including its four-set win versus Indiana on Friday.
Leading the block party were Desiree Becker, Iman Ndiaye and Anna Dodson. Becker recorded a career-high nine blocks (two solo, seven assisted) to go along with seven kills at a .429 clip. The graduate transfer from Northwestern ranks first on the squad with 29.0 blocks and 1.38 blocks per set through five matches.
Ndiaye tallied a match-high 19.5 points on 14 kills (.294%) and eight blocks (one solo, seven assisted). Dodson was UCLA’s most efficient performer with 12 kills at a .600 hitting percentage and seven blocks (three solo, four assisted.
The Beach (2-3) hit .250 or worse in each of the first three sets and hit for a .034 mark in the third.
Facilitating UCLA’s attack was freshman setter Ashley Mullen who recorded 41 assists, two dump kills and three blocks herself (one solo, two assisted). Libero Peyton Dueck paced the Bruins with 13 digs.
UCLA travels to the island of O’ahu to compete at the Outrigger Volleyball Challenge in Honolulu’s Stan Sheriff Center. The Bruins open competition versus Pepperdine on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7:45 p.m. (PT).
