Bruins Oust Spartans, 3-1 – UCLA

LOS ANGELES – élan McCall recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs as the No. 22-ranked UCLA women’s volleyball team defeated San Jose State, 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 26-24, 25-17), at Gersten Pavilion Friday night.
 
McCall also matched a career high with two solo blocks.
 
The Bruins (5-2) hit .165 as a team while limiting the Spartans (4-2) to just .048. Sophomore Francesca Alupei contributed a team-high eight block assists to UCLA’s team total of 16 blocks. Alupei has now recorded four 5+ block performances in the seven matches to start the season.
 
Outside hitters Grayce Olson and Iman Ndiaye joined McCall in double-digit kills with 11 and 10, respectively.
 
Setter Kate Lane surpassed her former career high in blocks of two with four tonight in just two sets of work.
 
Set 1: Ndiaye notched four kills on six attempts to lead the Bruin attack in the first set. Ndiaye and Alupei both met at the net for a pair of block assists as UCLA jumped out to an early 11-4 lead.
 
A 7-0 run by Peyton Dueck at the service line extended that advantage to 15-5.
 
The Spartans’ first kill in the match didn’t come until their seventh point of the set at the 17-7 mark. San Jose State hit -.069 with just seven kills and nine attack errors in the set.
