PITTSBURGH – Graduate senior Courtney Buzzerio has been named ACC Player of the Week following a pair of excellent performances over the weekend. The graduate transfer from Iowa led Pitt with 29 kills on an incredibly efficient, .391 hitting, as the Panthers swept No. 5 Ohio State, the program’s first home sweep of a Top-5 opponent, and Tennessee inside Fitzgerald Field House.
Buzzerio led Pitt in kills in both contests, putting up a season-best 5.00 kills/set (15 kills) in Sunday’s sweep of Ohio State. But her most impressive factor wasn’t just earing kills, it was the efficiency at which she was making them. Buzzerio’s 4.83 kills/set over the weekend was achieved on a team-best .391 hitting.
Efficiency is nothing new for Buzzerio as her season hitting percentage rises to .364 this season – the seventh best average in the ACC and best by any non-middle blocker. She has made 123 kills on 261 swings with only 28 errors this season. Her .364 hitting percentage leads the nation among pin hitters with over 250 attempts.
