Bears’ Captain Takes Podium In First Professional Event
BERKELEY – Junior Sierra Caffo of the California beach volleyball team took home the silver medal at the 2023 NORCECA U23 Beach Championship in Don Julio, Dominican Republic with the U.S. National Team Friday afternoon.
Paired alongside her former LSU teammate, Ella Larkin, Caffo went 2-0 in group play with wins over Canada and El Salvador earlier this week to advance to the knockout stage. The two Americans picked up a win over Dominican Republic in yesterday’s quarterfinal and topped their U.S. teammates of Xolani Hodel and Delaynie Maple in the semis early this morning to reach the championship.
In the final round Caffo and Larkin suffered their first loss of the tournament falling 2-0 to Cuba but took home the silver medal. Hodel and Maple joined them on the final podium with a bronze medal win over Canada.
