Cajic Reaches Milestone Kill in Loss at #6 Louisville


LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Graduate transfer outside Nina Cajic eclipsed 1,000 kills for her career during Tennessee’s 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-20) loss at sixth-ranked Louisville on Sunday afternoon in the KFC Yum! Center.
 
Cajic led the Lady Vols (0-2) in kills with nine for the match to go along with five digs, but the Cardinal (2-0) offense finished 45 kills on .371 hitting to outpace UT. Tennessee finished with 30 kills, 29 assists and three aces as well as 29 digs and two blocks on defense.
 
The middle blocker duo of Keondreya Granberry and Emily Beeker combined for 13 kills in the match. Granberry tallied eight kills on an impressive .889 hitting to go along with one block. Redshirt sophomore setter Caroline Kerr posted 24 assists, six digs, one block and one kill on the night, while sophomore libero Sydney Jaynes finished with two aces, two assists and two digs.
 
In the opening frame, Cajic led the offensive attack with three kills on .500 hitting, but Louisville hit .650 and had five players with multiple kills in the period to outpace the Lady Vols.
 
Tennessee settled in during the second set and put the pressure on the Cardinals, recording 12 kills, two blocks and an ace to get on the board. Cajic added four more kills in the period, including her final one that gave her 1,000 for her career. After being tied at 21-21, Louisville won four of the final five points to take the 2-0 lead.
 
The Big Orange fought hard in the final frame thanks to five kills by Granberry, but an 11-4 swing by the Cardinals sealed the match. Up next, the Lady Vols return home for a pair of matches this week against UCLA on Thursday at 7 p.m. and LIU on Friday at 6:30.
