Cal, #3 Stanford Coming to Tempe This Weekend


TEMPE – Back home after two weeks, No. 21 Sun Devil Volleyball will host the Bay Area schools this weekend, starting with Cal on Friday in Desert Financial Arena before taking on No. 3 Stanford on Sunday in Mullett Arena.

Fan Information

Friday’s match against the Bears will begin at 6 p.m. MST in Desert Financial Arena. It will be the Tempe’s Version match, where we will be in our Sun Devil era and fans are encouraged to trade friendship bracelets that never go out of style. On Sunday, the matchup against the Cardinal will be at noon MST in Mullett Arena. That will be the Halloween game and fans are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes.

Sun Devil Outlook

No. 21 Arizona State (19-3, 7-3 Pac-12)

  • The Sun Devils split their weekend on the road. They swept Utah before falling in straight sets at Colorado. The sweep at Utah was the 13th of the season for ASU, which is tied for the third-most in program history in a single season.
  • ASU is No. 21 in the latest AVCA rankings, the fifth week in a row being in the top 25. JJ Van Niel is just the second first-year head coach at ASU to have a ranked team, the other being Debbie Brown in 1983. Her team was ranked for 11 weeks and got as high as No. 13.
  • Senior opposite Marta Levinska has had a fantastic senior year so far. She leads the team in kills and is ranked in the top 25 in the nation for total kills (327), kills per set (4.30), total points (386.5) and points per set (5.09). She is now 17 kills away from ninth place in the record book for career kills. Earlier this season, she was the back-to-back Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, the first time that has happened to a Sun Devil.
