Cats Fall to No. 25 Cougars in Four

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona lost to No. 25 Washington State in four sets. The Cats won the first set 25-22, but fell 17-25, 17-25, 20-25 in the last three sets.
 
Sofia Maldonado Diaz led Arizona’s offense with 14 kills and also recorded three blocks. Zyonna Fellows and had four blocks in the match.
 
Arizona won Set 1, 25-22. Sofia Maldonado Diaz had four kills and Jaelyn Hodge had three kills. Arizona served two aces and tallied 3.5 blocks. The Wildcats came from behind on a 7-0 run to take a 21-14 lead that the Cougars couldn’t catch.
 
Washington State took the second set, 25-17. Maldonado Diaz led Arizona once again with five kills and hit .444 in the set. The Cougars hit .407 and held Arizona to a .133 hitting percentage to even the match.
 
The Cougars won the third set, 25-17, to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Zyonna Fellows and Maldonado Diaz had three kills each, but Washington State had four blocks and served three aces to win the set.  
 
Washington State won the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set. The Cougars took an early lead on a 5-0 run, but Arizona tied the set at 14-14. Washington State regained their lead at 19-18 and the Wildcats couldn’t complete the comeback.
 
Arizona heads to California on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. MST and Stanford on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. MST.
